About Green Tea
Green tea is harvested from the Camellia sinensis plant, heated quickly by pan frying or steaming, then dried. Since green tea is not fermented it maintains polyphenols that seem responsible for its many benefits.
Cups per Day
You can enjoy health benefits from consuming as few as one to 2 cups of green tea a day. Most studies reported on participants who were consuming 3 to 6 cups of green tea daily. Drinking in excess of 8 cups a day is not recommended. Green tea has about half the caffeine of the average cup of coffee but you may want to consume it before 4 PM to guard against sleep disruptions.
Tips to Maximize Health Benefits
Look for high-quality organic green tea. Lower-quality green teas may contain excessive amounts of fluoride.
Steer clear of teas with added ingredients and ones with plastics in their tea bags.
Prepare your tea using hot but not boiling water and dunk the tea bag up and down while steeping.
Steep for 1 to 2 minutes or up to 10 minutes.
You may want to avoid adding milk since milk may interfere with the absorption of the healthy compounds found in tea.
Drink it hot or iced with a squeeze of lemon and enjoy!
Bottom Line
Green tea has many far-reaching physical and mental health benefits that make it a worthy addition to everyone’s routine.
