As I sit down to write this, I can't help but reflect on how the little twists and turns in life can change our path. At 55, I received a diagnosis that shook me to my core: osteoporosis. Despite leading what I thought was a healthy lifestyle, I was faced with the reality that I could become frail as I aged. Little did I know this diagnosis would trigger a transformative journey that would lead me to discover my true purpose and passion for empowering women's health.

The Diagnosis:

At the moment of diagnosis, amidst the news of entering menopause, I was faced with a harsh reality. Despite leading what I believed to be a healthy lifestyle, I had osteoporosis. I was angry and frustrated. I grappled with the thought of becoming a frail old lady. Despite these feelings, I remember thinking, "I will figure this out."

The Journey Begins

I followed the prescribed medication regimen for a few weeks, but after reading more thoroughly I knew it wasn’t for me. At the time it felt as though the prescribed medication might be scarier than the disease. This led to extensive research where I explored ways to improve my bone health naturally.

Retiring from a career in education and embarking on a new adventure living aboard our boat gave me the time I needed to dig deep and focus on my health. 

Over the next four years, I delved into every resource available, from medical literature, podcasts, books, and articles to conversations with doctors.  I experimented with different supplements, donned a weight vest during walks, and completely changed my diet more than once, for better bone health.

The truth is there was a lot of trial and error during this time. I learned a great deal about how to find good scientific information. Ask me about prunes one day!

I also learned what to eat, how to move, sleep, and manage stress in the menopause transition and beyond, not only for better bones but for better health and well-being! It turns out that what's good for your bones is good for your overall health. I was truly amazed by what I didn't know about how our bodies change in this phase of life and irritated with how much misinformation is out there.

The Turning Point

Just as I thought I had about figured out, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. We couldn't cruise so I had more time on my hands and my interest in women's health had become an obsession. In 2020 I enrolled in a health coach certification program at IIN to study holistic wellness.

Soon after, we hit the road in a 28-foot RV. As I traveled across the country I completed my coursework, honed my coaching skills, and laid the groundwork for my new venture.

Empowering Women's Health

In August 2022, I opened my doors to clients, armed with a solid understanding of how to help women in the menopause transition and beyond improve their health and wellness through weight loss, movement, stress management, and better sleep. What began as a personal journey of self-discovery had grown into a mission to help other women navigate midlife health. I have had the opportunity to coach amazing women to incredible results!

From weight management to stress management, I share my knowledge and experiences, guiding and supporting women nationwide towards transformative lifestyle changes. I am honored and grateful for the beautiful women I get to support and interact with daily. My health coaching has been life-changing for many women! I can't imagine doing anything else. Lessons Learned

My journey taught me invaluable lessons that go beyond the scope of health. I learned the importance of grace, resilience, and self-compassion. I learned the impact of sleep and stress is equal to if not greater than the impact of food and movement.

Embracing a holistic approach to well-being has been pivotal in maintaining my bone density for over eight years. I am also stronger, have more energy, and my weight never varies more than 3 pounds. Honestly, I am living my best life! And in doing so, I found my purpose all over again.

Today, I am grateful for the osteoporosis diagnosis that set me on this path. Through coaching, I've witnessed the profound impact of fostering positive lifestyle changes.
